Corpoelec admits 800 MW lost after the earthquake and promises 1,300 MW more before year's end
The minister of Electric Energy and president of Corpoelec, Rolando Alcalá, said in a message to the country that the June 24 earthquake 'interrupted and slowed' the recovery plans and that 800 MW of thermal generation were lost in Carabobo and other areas. According to VTV, he announced 1,300 MW to be added in the last quarter, including seven units in Zulia.
He also announced that unit 6 of Planta Centro, with 600 MW, will start 'in the coming days'. On opposition channels, David Placeres said that 'for the first time' in a long while those responsible for the power system 'show their faces and announce plans'; El Pitazo broadcast during an outage: 'we are still in a blackout'.
