Delcy Rodríguez orders humanitarian aid for Colombia after magnitude 7.4 quake
Colombia was hit on August 10 by a magnitude 7.4 earthquake and Venezuela offered rescuers and humanitarian aid, El Comercio and La Patilla reported. Speaking from a school in Maiquetía, La Guaira, acting president Delcy Rodríguez expressed solidarity with President Abelardo de la Espriella's government and said she ordered aid organized first thing in the morning.
The announcement drew criticism, El Tiempo reported. Commentator David Placeres questioned the government offering help after its handling of Venezuela's June 24 double earthquake. In La Guaira, Rodríguez led the deployment of the Bricomiles brigades to repair schools; according to state TV, at least 361 were damaged by the quake.
