A bipartisan group of US senators led by Republican Ted Cruz and Democrat Jeanne Shaheen introduced a resolution on August 4 calling for free elections and the immediate, unconditional release of political prisoners, according to Cruz's office and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
The text warns that any harm to María Corina Machado or other candidates would delegitimize those elections, Reuters reported. Shaheen said the regime has taken no serious steps to dismantle its repressive apparatus. In an interview with David Placeres, Senator Rick Scott called Machado his "great friend."

Members of the 2015 National Assembly are traveling to Venezuela for the meeting with the government set for August 6, according to David Placeres. María Corina Machado, who was not invited, acknowledged differences with the Donald Trump administration over the timing of the transition, Placeres reported.

Acting president Delcy Rodríguez handed over 87 homes in Ciudad Tiuna to families affected by the June 24 earthquakes, according to the official broadcast. She also said 300 of the 600 MW generated by the Termocarabobo plant, damaged by the double earthquake, have been restored.
