U.S. prosecutors filed a brief before Judge Alvin Hellerstein opposing a request by Cilia Flores, Nicolás Maduro's wife, to leave the detention center and move to house arrest, NTN24 reported. Prosecutors called the evidence against her "overwhelming" and said they will bring cooperating witnesses who dealt with her directly to trial.
The defense had asked for her release citing a heart condition, but its own medical staff has not been able to document it, according to NTN24. The hearing on the request is set for October 8 at 10:30 a.m. Eastern time, the same outlet reported.

Before the UN General Assembly, Donald Trump called Nicolás Maduro a dictator and warned he would use "military power" to stop new threats in the hemisphere, with Delcy Rodríguez in the room, as reported by David Placeres. Demonstrators gathered outside the National Electoral Council in Caracas demanding an election calendar and María Corina Machado's return, NTN24 reported. Opposition leader Jesús Armas said Delcy Rodríguez's "deep hypocrisy" at the UN cannot be accepted while there are "more than 300 political prisoners," according to VPItv.
Protesters chanted "elections now" and said they want to welcome Machado "with open arms," NTN24 reported. State media made no reference to the protests.
