Avavit: Maiquetía airport resumes commercial flights on August 24 with about eight daily flights

Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía will resume commercial operations on Monday, August 24, with about eight daily flights at first, Avavit president Vicky Herrera de Díaz confirmed, according to El Impulso. Security and immigration checks will run in tents holding 1,260 passengers; the official list of airlines and final schedules have not been published yet.

The same day, Venezuela's College of Engineers said that of 11,185 buildings inspected in the Caracas metro area after the June 24 earthquakes, 1,119 (10%) got a red tag for serious structural failures, 1,544 yellow and 8,620 green, El Impulso reported. State TV is talking about earthquakes almost twelve times more than its average for the year.

María Corina Machado to join the Nobel Peace Prize conference in Oslo by video on September 3

María Corina Machado, the 2025 Nobel Peace laureate, will take part by video on September 3 in the Nobel Peace Center's "Democracy on the Brink" conference in Oslo, alongside Maria Ressa, Juan Manuel Santos, Ales Bialiatski and Narges Mohammadi, La Patilla and El Impulso reported. Fifteen young activists from five countries will attend.

In Venezuela, journalist David Placeres said the Vente Venezuela team has returned from exile and is already organizing campaign events, and that Machado fears parliamentary elections will be called first. He also said Machado acknowledged in an interview with Der Spiegel that she could be excluded.

Delcy Rodríguez tours communal production units in Sarría as opposition commentators discuss chavismo's pre-campaign

Acting president Delcy Rodríguez on Saturday inspected communal production units in Sarría, in Caracas's Libertador municipality, with National Industry and Trade Minister Luis Villegas and Mayor Carmen Meléndez, according to the official broadcast, which highlighted the push for a socio-productive model and exports.

On the opposition side, David Placeres said the pre-campaign fight is heating up inside chavismo and that its propaganda machine is looking for young faces as possible candidates.
